Through the Applied Literary Arts program, the MFA supports a range of internship opportunities for students to gain experience and expertise in literary publishing, arts administration, teaching, community building, and more. The program offers between 1 and 3 Literary Arts Credits for internships which may be used toward completion of the MFA degree. Recent internships have included UMass-based groups like the Juniper Summer Writing Institute and Juniper Institute for Young Writers, Paperbark, The UMass Press, The Massachusetts Review, and RadiusMFA. These organizations, along with a rich array of local and regional presses, journals, arts organizations, and alumni-run projects offer accredited internships through the MFA’s Applied Literary Arts program. Students receive literary arts credits which may be used towards their degree. In some cases, stipends are available. Students may also seek internships in other geographic locations.
