Kari hails from Pittsfield, MA. She holds a doctorate in English from the University of Connecticut, where she specialized in nineteenth-century British and American literature. Her research and teaching interests include educational systems and autodidacticism; labor; and Gothic fiction. Prior to embarking on her academic career she built a career in arts management, working for institutions such as Shakespeare & Company and MASS MoCA.
