Dara Wier

Dara Wier's dozen books include You Good Thing (Wave 2013) andSelected Poems (Wave 2010); other books and chapbooks include Reverse Rapture (a book length poem, Verse Press 2007) A Civilian's Journal Of The War Years (Song Cave 2012) and We Would Like To Return The Scarf To You In Good Condition (Small Anchor, forthcoming) and You Stare As If Staring Were The Start of All Stars (Pilot Books, forthcoming). Fellowships from the  Guggenheim Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, Massachusetts Cultural Council and awards from the San Francisco Intrnational Poetry Center, the American Poetry Review, and Phi Beta Kappa have supported her work.  With Guy Pettit and Emily Pettit she founded, edits, and publishes for Factory Hollow Press, a division of Flying Object, a non profit arts center in Hadley, Massachusetts.  She is co-founder and co-director of the Juniper Initiative for Literary Arts and Action, and the Juniper Institute's Summer Workshops.  She currently directs the MFA Program for Poets and Writers. 

She teaches poetry writing workshops, form & theory seminars and contemporary poetry. She also facilitates arts administration internships for MFA poets and writers.  Independent studies range from poetry in English and translation to recent contemporary American poetry to book text design to single author concentrations & combinations (Fernando Pessoa, Wallace Stevens, Hart Crane, Emily Dickinson, Christopher Smart, John Clare, John Ashbery, Gertrude Stein, Tomaz Salamun, Lorine Niedecker, Theodore Roethke, Arthur Rimbaud, Edgar Allan Poe,  Marianne Moore, Elizabeth Bishop, James Baldwin, Sylvia Plath, Muriel Rukeyser, William Carlos Williams, Adrian Louis, Cesar Vallejo, Sherwood Anderson, Nathanael West, Pierre Reverdy, William Bronk, George Oppen, Walter Benjamin, Georges Perec, Frank O'Hara, Robert Walser, Werner Herzog, Art Spielgelman Henry James, Gustave Flaubert, Lydia Davis, Marcel Proust, Merriwether Lewis, E.M. Connell, and others); her interests include poetry, prose and mixed and blended genre (graphic, photographic & collage) composition and the everyday dynamics of reading.
