Video Security Camera Request Submission Process

A university department, administrative unit, new construction project, and/or renovations seeking to install a video security camera must submit a formal request to the Video Security Camera Committee (VSCC) for review and approval prior to any installation or procurement of equipment.

The Video Security Camera Committee (VSCC) is co-chaired by the Assistant Vice Chancellor/Chief of Police and Assistant Vice Chancellor of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Emergency Management.

A Video Security Camera Request Form must be completed and submitted to the VSCC. The following information must be included in the request:

A clear statement of purpose and justification for the installation.

  1. Description of the proposed location(s), including maps or diagrams.
  2. Whether the installation is intended to be temporary or permanent.
    1. Temporary camera installations may be approved by the Assistant Vice Chancellor/Chief of Police and Assistant Vice Chancellor of EHS and Emergency Management in response to emergent security needs, events, or time-limited investigations, with prompt notification to the VSCC.
  3. A detailed explanation of the source of funding for all associated costs, including initial installation, equipment purchase, ongoing maintenance, and eventual replacement of hardware.
    1. It is important to note that all financial responsibilities—both upfront and long-term—must be identified and secured prior to approval. This ensures the sustainability of the video security camera system and avoids gaps in functionality due to lack of maintenance or replacement planning.
