Fred Kaplan

Fred Kaplan is the national-security columnist for Slate and the author of six books, including The Bomb: Presidents, Generals, and the Secret History of Nuclear War and The Insurgents, which was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. He was a longtime staff correspondent for the Boston Globe, reporting from Washington (1983-91, where he won a Pulitzer Prize for a special Sunday magazine on the nuclear arms race), Moscow (1992-95), and New York (1995-2002). He graduated from Oberlin College and has a Ph.D. from M.I.T.
