Appy is the author of three books about the Vietnam War, including American Reckoning: The Vietnam War and Our National Identity. At UMass Amherst, he has received the Chancellor’s Medal, the Distinguished Teaching Award, and the Distinguished Graduate Mentor Award. He is now writing an Ellsberg biography with the working title Ellsberg’s Mutiny: War and Resistance in the Age of Vietnam, The Pentagon Papers, and Nuclear Terror.
