Below are trainings specific to work in labs/shops/studios and work with hazardous materials or processes. It is not fully inclusive of all trainings required for lab personnel. For more information, refer to SciShield for Lab Management.

The following trainings can be completed in SciShield:

  • Lab Safety and Fire Safety Trainings are each required for all individuals working in a lab environment or a shop with any chemical use.

  • Mechanical and Electrical Safety Training is required for individuals working in a shop or with other physically hazardous tools.

  • Art Safety Training is required for individuals working in a studio in lieu of Lab Safety training.  Individuals must also complete the Fire Safety training.

  • PI Roles and Responsibilities Training is recommended for new PIs

In addition to EHS-providing training, PIs are responsible for providing lab specific training to individuals in their lab/shop/studio spaces.  This training should include specific hazards of materials and processes used in the particular spaces, special emergency procedures, evacuation route and assembly point for fires or other emergencies, and other relevant portions of the lab specific chemical hygiene plan and standard operating procedures.

EHS is also happy to come to meet with your lab group to discuss building and lab specific safety items. If you are interested, please contact us to schedule.
