Dr. Hammond is a demonstrated scholar-practitioner in Higher Education with progressively responsible and diverse experience in Student Affairs administration and leadership, including human resource management, policy analysis, strategic planning and assessment and the application of student-centered, high impact retention and completion practices. His experience in curriculum delivery and student affairs in Community College is rooted in best practices, supporting holistic student development, academic achievement and fostering a positive learning environment for all students.
Dr. Hammond's research related to student veterans is distinct from the work of other contemporary researchers and represents an alternative way of understanding how student veterans perceive their own identity and how that identity is influenced by external factors and social context, thus shaping their lived experience. Results from his empirical research include an emergent Combat Veteran Conceptual Identity Model (Hammond, 2013) providing notable implications for future research and practice in higher education related to student veterans. Other research interests include first generation college students and adult learners in higher education.
