Jacqi received her PhD with distinction in International and Transcultural Studies (Comparative Education and Developmental Psychopathology) from Columbia University in 2002, and her Masters of International Affairs (Economic and Political Development), also from Columbia. She undertook her undergraduate studies at the University of Glasgow and Tufts University, earning her Bachelor of Arts (International Relations with French, Russian and Psychology) in 1994. Prior to academia, Jacqi worked for the Fulbright Commission in her hometown London, UNICEF in Mongolia, and for the International Rescue Committee.

Jacqi has undertaken research for the International Rescue Committee, the European Commission, the World Bank, and UN agencies. She is Co-Editor of the Comparative Education Review, a member of the INEE’s 2018-2021 Working Group on Education Policy, and a Board Member of Jitegemee, an NGO working alongside street children in Kenya founded by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Farah Stockman. In 2016, she was elected President of the CIES Special Interest Group, Teaching Comparative Education, a position she held for two years. During her sabbatical in 2017/2018, Jacqi was a visiting research fellow at the Refugee Studies Centre, Department of International Development at the University of Oxford in the UK.

Jacqi teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in a variety of formats. She teaches graduate courses on critical theory, cultural studies and comparative education that focus around questions of race and racism in international education, decolonizing international development, and global justice. At the undergraduate level, Jacqi has taught Faculty First Year Seminars focusing on the helping professions and the course introducing students to International Education and Development, Educ 229 Introduction to International Education, in both large lectures and small seminars, most recently at the UMass in Oxford Program at Trinity College, University of Oxford.

She has taught in person, online and using a hybrid format. She teaches large lectures, small seminars and works with a variety of students undertaking independent studies each semester. Her doctoral students work on issues relevant to migration, education, and social justice within international development.

Jacqi’s work has been published in a wide range of international journals and formats, from books to journal articles to reports. In 2017 her work was published in Compare, Peace Review, and the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education. She has been invited to speak on 4 continents around the world, and in 2016/2017 presented at multiple venues in the US and the UK, in Switzerland, the Republic of Korea, and Qatar. In 2018, Jacqi has upcoming publications on migrant mothers, critical analysis of the representations of refugees, decolonizing international education, and the politics of difference in internationalizing higher education in the US.
