Holyoke Public Schools Ethnic Studies Program Awarded 2020 Distinguished Community Engagement Award

Three cheers for the Holyoke Public Schools Ethnic Studies Program, recipients of the 2020 UMass Amherst Distinguished Community Engagement Award for Community Partner! The Ethnic Studies Program is being recognized for sustaining a vibrant, community-engaged program in the Holyoke Public Schools through a vigorous working partnership with faculty and educational programs on the UMass Amherst campus.

Multiple members of the College of Education community had a hand in the successful nomination including Dr. Chrystal George Mwangi; Dr. Laura Valdiviezo; Dr. Keisha Green; Dr. Kysa Nygreen; Joel Arce, Social Justice Education Ph.D. student; and Dr. Yedalis Ruiz, Director of Student Bridges and alumna of the Higher Education Ph.D. program who wrote, "Ethnic Studies is invaluable as a partner to so many of us at UMass and is deserving of recognition for its sustained record of engagement." We look forward to continuing to partner with this exceptional program!
