This summit aims to promote conversation and generate new ideas about socially important issues, exploring the essential question, “How should Massachusetts public schools prepare the next generation for civic engagement and responsibility?”

The summit is free and open to all; refreshments will be served. 

The summit will consist of two panels, one of adult experts and another of student leaders, each lasting approximately 20 minutes, followed by a 20-minute audience Q&A session. Attending experts include award-winning Civics teacher at East Hampton, Kelly Brown; Assistant Director of Humanities for the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Reuben Henriques; and former state senator and Director of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate, Adam Hinds; among others. Student panelists include the Easthampton High School We the People Winner, Oliver Oparwoski; Luke Salvadore from Quabbin Regional High School; and student board members from the Center of Racial Justice at the UMass Amherst College of Education.
