Dania Francis Awarded 2018 Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship

Dania Francis, assistant professor of economics and Afro-American studies, has been selected to receive a National Academy of Education / Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship, which was created to encourage outstanding scholars at the postdoctoral level to pursue critical education research projects. 

The $70,000 awards support non-residential postdoctoral proposals that make significant scholarly contributions to the field of education.

Dania Francis to further develop course on racial wealth inequality and politics with Lilly Fellowship

Dania Francis, Assistant Professor of Economics and Afro-American Studies, has been selected as one of eight 2018-19 Lilly Fellows for Teaching Excellence.

The Lilly Fellowship is a competitive program that enables promising junior faculty to cultivate teaching excellence in a special yearlong collaboration and is awarded though the Institute for Teaching Excellence and Faculty Development (TEFD).

Ina Ganguli wins Russian National Award in Applied Economics

The winner of this year’s Russian National Award in Applied Economics is Professor Ina Ganguli. She has been recognized for a series of three articles devoted to analysing the productivity of Russian scientists in the 1990s, as well as their decisions on emigration and the impact of emigration on the diffusion of Russian science in the United States.

Distinguished Faculty Lecture on April 9

Please join the Economics Department for the Distinguished Faculty Lecture to be presented by Professor Léonce Ndikumana on April 9 titled 'Capital Flight from Africa: Is the World Genuinely Ready for Action?'

Professor Ndikumana will be presented with the Chancellor’s Medal, the highest recognition bestowed to faculty by the campus, at the conclusion of the lecture.Free and open to all. Reception follows the lecture.

Eunjung Lee, PhD candidate in Economics, is part of a research team along with Joya Misra, UMass Amherst Sociology and Marta Murray-Close, Research Economist that confirms that women with children earn less in the workforce, despite gains in education and experience over the past 30 years.
