The Economics Department encourages students to study away from Umass and will work with you to fullfill economics major and minor requirements while you are away.
Domestic exchange is an opportunity for students to spend a semester or year at one of over 180 participating colleges and universities across the country. The Domestic Exchange Programs Office at UMass Amherst manages domestic exchange.
Study abroad is one of the best ways to internationalize a college education. There are over 400 UMass Amherst-sponsored programs in more than 50 countries around the world. Study abroad is managed by the International Programs Office (IPO).
Course Approval
Approval for Economics transfer or exchange courses taken outside UMass Amherst must be preapproved by Director of Advising Stephanie Babinski Brewer or Faculty Advisor Valerie Voorheis (contact info here). Courses in other academic departments (i.e. Mathematics, Political Science, History, etc.) must be reviewed for approval by that academic department, regardless of a student's major.
To request course approval for an Economics course, make a Study Abroad/Domestics Exchange or Transfer Courses appointment with either Stephanie or Valerie in Navigate and bring the following:
- Links or PDF versions of course information from the host institution, including course title, description, and syllabus if available, for each course that may be taken.
- A completed copy of the International Course Approval Form (ICAF) for study abroad courses or a Prior Approval for Transfer Coursework form for domestic exchange and courses taken outside of UMass Amherst for transfer.
If you are away from campus, you may email Stephanie or Valerie with the same materials and informaiton.
