Chinese Tutors
Chinese tutoring sessions are held every weekday (Monday–Friday, 12:00–5:00 p.m.) in the Newman Center Cafeteria/Lounge, starting from the second week of each semester. Visiting a tutor is strongly encouraged for students who are enrolled in Chinese 110/120 to Chinese 126/246. Students who are enrolled in other Chinese language courses are also recommended to participate. Furthermore, students who have taken a Chinese class before or would like to take one in the future are also welcome to use the service. All tutors are native Chinese speakers. You do not need to make an appointment in advance to work with a tutor.
Japanese Tutors
Japanese tutors are available every day (Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m., and Tuesdays, Wednesdays 2:30–5:30 p.m.) in the 4th floor lobby of Herter Hall. Students who are currently taking Japanese, those who have taken it before, and those who would like to take a course in the future are all welcome!
Students who are currently enrolled in a Japanese course can earn extra credit. All tutors are native to near-native Japanese speakers. You do not need to make an appointment. Students in the past brought a variety of topics for discussion, such as J-pop music, classical Japanese language, drama, manga, anime, Japanese games, translation, Japanese food, table manners, holidays, college life, fashion trends, dialects, technology, politics, transportation in Japan, Japanese comedians, childhood memories, relationships, or job interviews. The use of Japanese is preferred, but English is allowed as needed.
