Key Priorities
SES student success programming is guided by key priorities aimed at enhancing the student experience and preparing our students for their future careers:
- Common Learning: SES is focused on developing new programs and coordinating existing efforts to serve cross-serving certificates, fostering interdisciplinary learning across the campus ecosystem.
- Workforce Training: The school will continue to expand student training and workforce development programs including ongoing Climate Literacy workshops, directly addressing skills and knowledge demanded by emerging industries.
- Partnership Development: This approach is designed to attract strategic investment, align educational programs with workforce needs, and demonstrate a clear value proposition to external partners, including corporations and foundations. This also includes formalizing our internal partnerships to enhance the ecosystem of support for students.
Find Your Place: Programs and Events
- Student Sustainability Coalition (SSC): Join a collaborative space for students to connect and work together to advance a sustainable and just future. The SSC is organized by the Student Government Association (SGA) Sustainability Secretary and supported by SES.
- Diverse Student Organizations: UMass Amherst has a wide variety of student organizations and clubs. The Sustainability Student Club Fair is a great way to find them, but you can also explore the full list of Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) on the official UMass website.
- Majors Week: Explore your academic options during Majors Week in October.
- Earth Day Extravaganza: We work closely with student leaders to support campus-wide events like the annual Earth Day celebration.
Grow Your Skills: Training and Learning
- Climate Literacy Program: Our training workshop series helps you understand the basics of climate change, its impacts, and opportunities for action.
- Sustainability Courses: We maintain a curated list of courses with sustainability learning outcomes that can help guide your curriculum choices and tailor your studies to your interests.
- Experiential Learning: We are expanding our hands-on training programs, which include research experiences and internships. We also coordinate the Envirothon program, an outreach program that provides hands-on, environmental problem-solving experience for high school students. This program provides valuable outreach and training opportunities for UMass undergraduate and graduate students who serve as mentors and workshop leaders.
Launch Your Career: Internships and Job Fairs
- Sustainability & Clean Energy Career Fair: Co-hosted with the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) Career Center, this fair is a premier networking event connecting you with employers in environmental science, clean energy, and climate resilience.
- Internship Program: Our internship program offers you off-campus training and opportunities to connect with the evolving needs of the workforce.
