Academic Advisors
The College of Natural Sciences (CNS) offers our undergraduate students a dual advising model. Geology, Geography, Earth Systems, and Environmental Science majors have access to professional advising staff through CNS first-year advising and upper-level advising teams. After their first year, students transition to an upper-level advisor with whom they work for their sophomore, junior, and senior years. Students also have access to faculty mentors in the Earth, Geographic, and Climate Sciences Department.
CNS advisors provide students with support for:
- Major/college/gen-ed degree requirements
- Creating an academic plan to stay on track for graduation
- Navigating Campus Resources
- Adjusting to College/Establishing a sense of belongingness
- Major Exploration
- Academic Success & Planning

Undergraduate Program Directors
Undergraduate Program Directors (UPDs) are a first point of contact for prospective students interested in learning more about pursuing the Geology, Geography, Earth Systems, or Environmental Science majors or Geology, Geography, and Climate Science minors, curriculum requirements, and potential career opportunities. Current majors should also contact UPDs about transfer credits, obtaining credit for study abroad courses, or for seeking approval for substituting non-standard courses for degree requirements. In addition to students’ individual faculty mentors, UPDs are available to discuss opportunities for undergraduate research, internships, and independent study; planning for careers or graduate school; and choosing among upper-level electives.
Ask your Undergraduate Program Director about:
- Approval of transfer and study abroad courses toward major requirements
- Managing academic challenges
- Independent studies
- Internships and co-ops
- Graduate school
- Matching interests and career options
