Climate Research Group

In the years and decades to come, all people will be affected by climate change in one way or another. Yet there is significant diversity and disparity in the ways in which different individuals, communities, organizations and nations will be impacted by climate change. Just as diverse will be people’s responses to the multifaceted challenges climate change poses to how we organize and live our lives.

 

Cutting across the arts and humanities, social and natural sciences, and engineering fields, faculty in this group pursue a wide range of projects that examine the diversity of human impacts and responses in the context of global climate change.

Examples of research projects include:

  • Advising MA policymakers on mitigating the impact of flooding and post-flood hazards on populations most at risk
  • Investigating the effect of public art on perceptions of climate adaptation
  • Exploring how disparities in access to biodiversity in urban spaces affect disparities in human well-being
  • Examining the impact of community members’ opinions about fairness, access, and the pricing of electricity on their electricity consumption choices

This research group meets once a month and is open to faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and staff from the Five Colleges whose work touches on diversity and disparity in the context of climate change.
