Statement on Anti-Asian Racism from the International Faculty and Staff ERG

The Employee Resource Group for International Faculty and Staff (ERG-IFS) would like to reach out to all international faculty and staff, especially Asians and Asian Americans, and offer our support. We condemn the murders of six Asian women and two other people in the Atlanta area on March 16, 2021. The recent spike of anti-Asian racist attacks on not only Asian Americans but also Asian American women has no place in our communities and in this country.

We endorse and urge you to read the fuller statements made by the UMass Amherst Asian & Asian American Studies Certificate faculty,  As the statement notes, "Anti-Asian racism has never occurred in isolation and is always connected to other and existing forms of structural racism and inequality."

We stand in solidarity with all Asians and Asian Americans and express our deepest condolences to all those who have been affected by this and other incidents of anti-Asian racism and violence. We urge everyone to speak out against such acts and take concrete actions to prevent racism and other forms of discrimination from being normalized.
