Dear Campus Community,
In November 2016, UMass Amherst conducted a Campus Climate Survey to better understand the challenges of creating a community respectful of and inclusive for all. I am pleased to announce the release of the Campus Climate Unit Reports. We now have the opportunity to review data on a unit level and begin the process of driving real change. Our aim is to develop unit goals to join with campus-wide strategies to move us toward our aspirational campus climate.
Your engagement in our next steps is critical. We are excited to announce the formation of a spring 2018 Campus Climate Ambassador Team, which will be a core group of faculty, staff, and students who will engage with their peers in purposeful conversations about where we are and how to get where we want to be. Please apply or nominate someone to be a part of this important initiative by Feb. 15.
I encourage all of you to think of creative ways to participate in reshaping our campus climate both within your units and across campus. To facilitate this, I am happy to offer the first round of Campus Climate Improvement Grants, which will fund projects in spring 2018 that aim to foster a more inclusive campus. All are invited to apply and we welcome projects that enable you to take an active role in creating the climate you want at UMass. Applications are due Feb. 6.
Change starts with each of us, so let’s ask ourselves how we can work to build a more inclusive campus environment—together.
