What is the UMass ADVANCE Program?
This fall, we were awarded an ADVANCE Institutional Transformation Grant to develop systemic and sustainable approaches to advance gender equity (including dynamics at the intersection of race and gender) and promote gender equity in ways that involve women and men. We will separately fund the extension of grant activities to school/colleges outside of the core NSF-funded disciplines to ensure that all faculty can benefit.
UMASS is conducting a survey in Winter 2018 to establish a baseline and set benchmarks for progress. Faculty will receive the survey link via email, and we encourage all faculty to participate.
Frequently Asked Questions
UMass Amherst is conducting this important survey to learn about faculty members’ experiences at UMass: Is there equity in the distribution of resources to promote faculty success and access to professional networks on campus? Is there a sense of community that makes UMass inclusive and welcoming? What is going well? What areas are in need of improvement?
Your participation is voluntary. You will receive reminders after the initial invitation goes out to ensure a high response rate. Achieving the highest possible response rate is key to reliability of the results. No one is under any obligation to participate. But all faculty are strongly encouraged to participate because the greater the level of participation, the more useful the survey results will be.
The survey is aimed at identifying the strengths and challenges of your professional environment to help the university develop a forward-thinking plan that benefits you and all faculty. We are surveying every faculty member at the university because we want to have everyone’s perspective represented in our results. The results will guide new programs to promote faculty development, and influence access to campus resources, to target areas identified from this survey.
The survey includes questions that ask about your research, professional relationships at UMass, the culture and decision-making norms within your department/program, access to faculty mentoring, professional satisfaction, and demographic information.
Your responses are anonymous and will be analyzed only after being grouped together with hundreds of other faculty members. Names will not be linked to responses and no individuals will be identifiable in any reports, presentations or publications of the results.
The survey is web-based and has been optimized for completion via PC, phone or tablet. You will receive an email containing a link to our Campus Climate survey on Thursday, December 6, 2018. If you are interrupted while taking the survey and need to close your browser, you may click on the survey link again and pick up right where you left off.
On average, the survey should take 10-12 minutes to complete. You may skip any questions that you prefer not to answer.
All participants are eligible to win prizes from a random drawing, including an iPad, dinner at the University Club, or a pair of tickets to a performance of your choice at the Fine Arts Center.
Questions or Concerns about the survey should be addressed to: email@example.com
