Biography

Dr. Marsha Currin McGriff is a scholar and practitioner who has more than two decades of experience in leading strategic efforts to build and support global competence and cultural intelligence in higher education. Dr. McGriff is Vice Chancellor for Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (UMass). Prior to UMass, Dr. McGriff served as Senior Advisor to the President and Chief Diversity Officer at the University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville, FL. Prior to UF, Dr McGriff served as CDO at Ball State University in Muncie, IN and she worked at Indiana University for nearly 20 years in various roles. Dr. McGriff has won 8 national awards for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) work, and most recently she received the 2024 Individual Leadership award from the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE), the highest individual recognition in her field.  

Dr. McGriff received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tuskegee University in Alabama and her Doctor of Education from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. In her spare time, she enjoys reading a good Stephen King or dystopian novel, playing tennis, and spending time with family and friends.
