Scholarships

Each year Disability Services awards scholarships to current eligible students with disabilities. For information about how to apply for the scholarships, contact Rachel Adams, Assistant Director of Academic Access at rmadams@umass.edu.

The Parking Services Scholarship is available to assist in covering the cost of expanded testing for students who need neuropsychological testing for a learning disability. Funds are available on a rolling basis. Please submit your request to Rachel Adams.

The Class of ’43 “Making a Difference” Scholarship

Candidates must have completed a minimum of 24 credits at UMASS/Amherst and be making “reasonable” academic progress in a degree program. Awards will be based on a combination of financial need and academic achievement. Graduating seniors, previous winners and graduate students are welcome to apply.
Candidates must submit a typed, double-spaced, 2-3 page biographical essay. In this brief essay, share your experiences, philosophy, and/or any words of empowerment related to your experience as a person with a disability.
Two persons other than family members must submit letters of recommendations.
Students with disabilities not currently registered with Disability Services are encouraged to apply. Please contact Disability Services for registration procedures.

The Joseph V. Gavin “Keep the Faith” Scholarship

All candidates must have completed a minimum of one semester at UMass Amherst and be making “reasonable” academic progress in a degree program. Awards will be based on a combination of financial need and academic achievement. Graduating seniors, previous winners and graduate students are welcome to apply.
Candidates must submit a typed, double-spaced, 2-3 page biographical essay. In this brief essay, share your experiences, philosophy, and/or any words of empowerment related to your experience as a person with a disability.
Two persons other than family members must submit letters of recommendations.
It is expected that candidates will provide medical documentation unless currently registered with Disability Services.
Preference given to students with Cystic Fibrosis

The James M. Begin Endowment Fund

Awards will be based on a combination of financial need and academic achievement. Graduating seniors, previous winners and graduate students are welcome to apply.
