Overview for Faculty

Disability Services is committed to making reasonable, effective, and appropriate accommodations to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Faculty members are poised to play a critical role in assisting in the removal of barriers for students with disabilities, and are often called upon to provide classroom accommodations directly.

Each student who is eligible for an ADA accommodation and is registered with Disability Services may request academic adjustments. Accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis in consultation between the student and an Access Coordinator, and are approved by the Review Committee. Disability Services relies on timely information and communication from instructors to put accommodations in place.

Clockwork for Instructors

Clockwork syncs data from SPIRE, but does not provide any information to SPIRE, to protect the private information of students with disabilities.

Each semester, students registered with Disability Services are encouraged to send their accommodation letters to their instructors through our database, Clockwork. Diagnoses and details about students’ disabilities are NOT shared with instructors by Disability Services, and students are not required to share those details with their instructors.

Instructors will receive an email alerting them to the presence of an accommodation letter that can be accessed within Clockwork For Instructors; the details of the accommodations will not be included in the email itself. Instructors can login to Clockwork at any time to check for accommodation letters, even if the email prompt was not received.

Students with exam accommodations may elect to take the exam in our Exam Proctoring Center (EPC). After a student with exam accommodations has sent their accommodations letter to their instructors, they are eligible to schedule exams in the EPC. Instructors then upload the exam to Clockwork, along with any relevant testing instructions.

Contacting Disability Services

Instructors should communicate questions or concerns with Disability Services as soon as possible; in the eyes of the law, access delayed may be considered access denied.
