Jeanne Mengis

Jeanne Mengis was a visiting fellow at the NCDG while purusing a Ph.D. at the University of Lugano (Switzerland) in communication sciences.  She holds a master in communication sciences and studied communication and business administration at the University of Lugano (Switzerland) and the Freie Universität Berlin (Germany).

Mengis was the co-project manager of the research project “The Knowledge Communication between Experts and Decision Makers”. This topic, with particular focus on the public policy domain, constituted the subject of her doctoral thesis, which focused on how the outer communicative context and structure impacts the actual face-to-face conversation between experts and policy makers. The project aims to illuminate how experts communicate competence-based, decision-relevant knowledge beyond the mere transport of information, which problems arise in doing so and how this type of communication can be improved between decision makers and specialists with regard to complex, knowledge-intensive issues.

Mengis assisted the courses of knowledge management and strategy at the University of Lugano. She was also a guest lecturer at the Executive MBA in Media and Communication at the University of St.Gallen (Switzerland) and was involved in various business training seminars. She was the co-project manager of the Analyst Academy, a program that aims to improve communication skills of analysts.

Prior to her PhD engagement, she worked for a business and knowledge communication consultancy where she was particularly involved in the reengineering of the business communication unit and in the branding of the own services. Through internships, she worked as a co-manager of portal websites for a multi-media company where she designed the concept and navigation structure of websites and worked with content management systems. Additionally, she worked for the marketing department of a streaming-media company.
