Sreela Sarkar

Sreela Sarkar is an instructor at the Social Thought and Political Economy Program (STPEC), and a Ph.D. candidate of the Department of Communication at UMass Amherst. Her dissertation, titled “Technology and Modernity at the Boundaries of Global Delhi,” critically studies the institutional and cultural politics of Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICTD) initiatives in India, a nation that is a modular case for technology and modernization initiatives in the global South. During her residency at the NCDG, Ms. Sarkar will be working on two collaborative research projects: (1) an exploration on broadband, collaborative governance practices and civic participation in Western Massachusetts; and (2) a comparative study of notions of “modern citizenship” in digital inclusion health programs for marginalized groups in South Africa and India.
