Intergroup Dialogue: Pedagogy of Possibility
Intergroup dialogue (IGD) is a humanizing, critical-dialogic practice that brings together members of two or more different social identity groups to engage in courageous, facilitated conversations about social justice issues, with the goals of developing mutual understanding (though not necessarily agreement), harnessing the power of learning in community, and building participants’ capacity to bridge or navigate differences with intention and toward new possibilities. In this workshop, we introduce key goals and practice principles of IGD in higher education, including the four stages of IGD. Participants will engage in activities that encourage listening, voicing, and social identity engagement. We conclude by highlighting a few learning outcomes for IGD participants.
This workshop is a part of the Annual Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion conference. To learn more and register to attend this and other sessions, go to to the event page.
