In the GDR social satire When You're Older, Dear Adam, a boy finds a flashlight that makes people float when they lie.
The film was banned in 1966, in the midst of sweeping restrictions in the cultural sector. After the fall of the Wall in 1989, those restoring the film decided to work traces of excisions and damage into the finished print. The result is an unparalleled historical document inscribed in film.
The North American Premiere of the new digital transfer screened at Atlanta's vibrant Goethe Zentrum—in German with English subtitles and with an introduction and Q&A by Skyler J. Arndt-Briggs, of the DEFA Film Library.
