Trampe, Tamara
Biography:
Tamara Trampe was born in 1942 in Voronezh, Russia; her family moved to East Germany when she was seven. She studied German Language and Literature at Rostock University. From 1967 to 1970, she was a cultural editor for the youth paper Forum. She was employed at the DEFA Studio for Feature Films as a dramaturg from 1970 until it closed in 1990; from time to time during this period, she also worked as a co-scriptwriter and director at the DEFA Documentary Film Studio.
Since 1990, Trampe has worked as a freelance director, dramaturg and author. She has also taught at various film academies, including the German Academy for Film and Television in Berlin, the Academy for Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg, and the Academy for Film of North Rhine–Westphalia. She is the co-director of remarkable, award-winning documentaries, including: her cinematic declaration of love to people living in Berlin, Wiegenlieder; a look at Russian soldiers sent to Chechnya, Weiße Raben-Alptraum Tschetschenien; and Der schwarze Kasten, a documentary about a former high-ranking Stasi officer who trained spies. She has shared the directorship for most of her films with director and cameraman Johann Feindt.
