Biography:

Christel Gräf was born on December 24, 1935 in Dresden. She studied at the German Film Academy (now the Academy for Film and Television) from 1954 to 1958, when she joined the DEFA Studio for Feature Films. She worked first as an assistant to director Günter Reisch. As a dramaturg, she worked with directors including Roland Gräf, Egon Günther and Frank Beyer.

Since 1990, Gräf has worked as a freelance editor and dramaturg. She was the script consultant for the Oscar-nominated film Jenseits der Stille. She was also an advisor to the bureau for script funding at the federal ministry and worked as a script editor for the Hamburg Film Office.  In 1991, Gräf was involved in founding CineGraph Babelsberg, a center for film research. From 1992 to 1994, Gräf was part of the selection committee for the Berlin International Film Festival. Her articles have appeared in the journal Film und Fernsehen and other publications. Christel Gräf was married to director Roland Gräf. She died in December 2011.
