Boehm, Bernd

Biography:

Bernd Boehm studied photography and design in Hamburg, Germany. He works as a photographer and director of music videos, image and documentary films. From the 1980s to 2000, he also worked in the USA.

 

In 2005, Boehm collaborated with director Paul Morissey on a film portrait of Veruschka von Lehndorff, the internationally known German model, actress, and artist. Veruschka – Inszenierung (m)eines Körpers was selected for the Orizzonti section of the 2005 Venice International Film Festival.

 

Boehm worked on two major projects about the German expressionist sculptor and author Ernst Barlach. In 2006, his documentary, Ernst Barlach – Mystiker der Moderne, was shown on arte, the European TV channel, and at the Montreal Film Festival. Critics praised his exceptional use of light, shadows, and color in the photographs he contributed to the comprehensive illustrated book Ernst Barlach (2013).

 

Bernd Boehm is currently working on a documentary about Horst Janssen (1929-1995), a distinguished artist in the fields of graphic arts and drawing. Since 2003, Boehm has lived mainly in Berlin and Hamburg.
