Hartmann, Siegfried

Biography:
Siegfried Hartmann was born on October 15, 1927 in Liegnitz (now Poland). He studied directing at the DEFA Studio for Young Filmmakers from 1949 to 1951. In 1952, he joined the Studio for Popular Science Films, where he directed about twenty documentaries.
From 1952 to 1955, Hartmann was also an assistant director on feature film projects, working with Kurt Maetzig and Slatan Dudow, among others. He formally joined the DEFA Studio for Feature Films in 1957 and directed his first feature film, Fiete im Netz. Thereafter, Hartmann directed many children’s films and television productions.
