Biography:
The director and screenwriter Josef Mach was born in Prostejov (now Czech Republic) on February 25, 1909. He was a journalist and stage actor from 1931 to 1938 before becoming an assistant director of short films at Grafofilm Studio in 1938.
Mach directed many feature-length films for the Barrandov Studios in Czechoslovakia and was invited by the DEFA Film Studios to shoot the first East German Western, Die Söhne der großen Bärin, which turned out to be enormously successful.
Josef Mach died in Prague on July 7, 1987.
