Sodann, Peter
Biography:
Peter Sodann was born in Meißen in 1936. In 1959, he began studying acting at the Theater Academy in Leipzig. Sodann became the head of the student cabaret Rat der Spötter (Council of the Mockers). He was arrested for using subversive texts in 1961 and expelled from the Academy. He re-enrolled in 1963 and celebrated his debut at the Berliner Ensemble a year later.
Sodann also worked as a director at the theater in Magdeburg and was the manager of the neues theater in Halle from 1980 to 2005. Since the end of the 1970s, he has acted in both film and television productions. He became well-known as Commissar Ehrlicher in the Tatort TV series, in which he investigated 45 cases from 1991 to 2007. He is the host of two collections of satirical texts about the current German situation, which were brought out by Eulenspiegel in 2009 and 2011. Sodann was the Linke Partei's candidate in the 2009 presidential elections.
Peter Sodann died on April 5, 2024.
