Thalbach, Anna
Biography:
Anna Thalbach was born in 1973 in East Berlin. She grew up with a lot of exposure to theater, as her mother is the famous actress Katharina Thalbach (Die Blechtrommel, 1979), and her stepfather the late writer and director Thomas Brasch. She played minor parts in films as a child, including Engel aus Eisen (Angels of Iron, 1981). While an apprentice in costume design at the Schillertheater in Berlin, she decided to become an actress. After acting in her stepfather’s short film Der Passagier – Welcome to Germany (1988), she debuted in Herzlich willkommen in 1990. Thalbach became known as a film actress, but by the end of 1990s was working more in the theater, where she received critical acclaim for her role in Chekhov’s “The Dove” at the Maxim Gorki Theater. Anna Thalbach is also known for other artistic projects, most notably her photo collages.
