Schüttauf, Jörg
Biography:
Jörg Schüttauf was born on December 26, 1961 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz), East Germany. He studied acting at the Academy for Theatrical Arts in Leipzig. While still a student, he was discovered by director Peter Kahane, who gave him his first starring role as Ete, in the road movie Ete und Ali, and then cast him in Die Architekten.
After graduating in 1986, Schüttauf played on stage at theaters in Potsdam, Magdeburg and Berlin. In 1992, he proved his talent at portraying a sensitive character in the leading role in Egon Günther’s television feature film, Lenz. Schüttauf became well-known through his television roles, including his extraordinary portrayal of the father in the TV mini-series Der Laden, based on Erwin Strittmatter’s novel, and in the prime-time series Der Fahnder. He was also an audience darling as Detective Dellwo in the television crime series Tatort. Currently, Schüttauf can be seen on television as a detective in the comic crime series Die Draufgänger.
In 2001, Jörg Schüttauf gained widespread acclaim as Martin Schulz—a prisoner arrested as an East German citizen and released into a “new” country without a Wall—in the comedy Berlin Is in Germany, winner of the Panorama Audience Award at the 2001 Berlin International Film Festival. He was also part of the film team that won the 2009 German Television Award for Wir sind das Volk.
