Law student Caroline and her husband Tom feel compelled to keep their marriage a secret. Caroline is scared of upsetting her mother Hella, who has been skeptical of men ever since her divorce twenty years ago, and Tom fears the criticism of his professor and boss, a family law specialist who is opposed to the idea of marriage.

While the other female students hope their charms will force the professor to reconsider his views on relationships, Caroline has a different reason to change his mind after she accidentally learns that he is her father. However, her efforts to bring her parents back together begin to have an negative effect on her own marriage.
