Synopsis
Traffic grinds to a halt, cows carry deliveries, and enormous swarms of drummers rally: all for one brief “bang.”

Commentary
Drum Beat is one of the many short animations that director Otto Sacher worked on during his decades at the DEFA Studio for Animation Film. Much like the other Sacher films we’ve paid tribute to this month, Drum Beat handles human idiosyncrasies with humor and understanding. This short is bursting with over-the-top action, and it tells a spirited story without using one word. Animators Evelyn Köhler, Barbara Atanassow and Erika Boye also worked to bring Drum Beat to life.
