Twelve year-old Susanne has only one friend, the old lock keeper. When she tells him about her problems with classmates who continually tease her, he gives her a ring with magic powers. Sometimes the ring will help, sometimes not. By the time Susanne comes to understand the ring's secret, she no longer needs it.
