Ten-year-old Jessi has found a warm stone on the beach that glows and can even talk. It explains that it is the heart of Pirate William Red and it proceeds to tell her his story. Jessi's friends just laugh at the magic stone and act like she’s crazy. But when she comes home one day, a man who looks like William the Pirate is there. He is supposed to be her father, circus rider Jacco. The ten-year-old dreams of having both parents and an intact family, but when her father disappoints, she throws the stone away along with her childish hopes.
