Synopsis
As a film student in 1964, the director filmed painter Albert Ebert for his final exam in cinematography at the Film Academy in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Ebert, a widely-known figure among East German artists and intellectuals, only agreed to be filmed because it was “for practice.” Almost twenty years later, Kohlert revisited his black-and-white footage, combining it with color shots of Ebert’s paintings and various settings to make the only documentary on this unique artist. Aside from a short appearance in Konrad Wolf’s feature film The Naked Man on the Sports Field (1973), this is the only filmed record of Albert Ebert.
