In the sequel to The Punch Bowl (Maibowle, 1959), the Lehmann family is preparing to celebrate New Year's Eve. The family's two sons, cultural enthusiast Franz (Heinz Draehn) and sport fanatic Michel (Achim Schmidtchen), lead two separate brigades at work. The differences come to a head when the rival groups must work together to plan the company party. The program highlight is to be an ice skating performance featuring granddaughter Suse (Christel Bodenstein), yielding plenty of fodder for the art vs. athleticism debate.
Father Wilhelm (Erich Franz) tries to help his sons see each other's point of view with little success, but it takes budding romance to bring the two brigades closer together.
