Filmmaker's Series

The Films of Jörg Foth

Premiere 2010
University of Massachusetts Amherst

Director Jörg Foth, an insightful analyst of German society and film history, was the featured guest of a North American Filmmaker's Tour.

An advocate for the youngest generation of DEFA filmmakers at the East German studio beginning in the 1980s, Jorg Foth’s presentations built on his personal knowledge of these filmmakers and their work, captured in the film series WENDE FLICKS: Last Films from East Germany.

The DEFA Film Library was pleased to host Foth as artist-in-residence at the University of Massachusetts Amherst September 20-27. While in the Five College area, he gave lectures and film presentations, as well as a film studies colloquium for graduate and undergraduate students. Foth also presented the world premieres of newly subtitled versions of three of his films The Arctic Sea Calls, Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Tuba wa duo.

An unexpected piece of good luck made it possible for Foth to present his film Latest from the Da-Da-R at the annual conference of the German Studies Association in Oakland, California, together with the author and cabaret artist Stefen Mensching, who appears in the film and had been invited by GSA as a keynote speaker.
