Plan how students will get timely feedback on one or more assignments

Why

Feedback is one of the most critical ways to help a learner succeed. We hear from students in every season of our popular Midsemester Assessment Process (MAP) Program, that they want more feedback on their progress. Plan now for how you will give students feedback in a way that works well for both you and them.

How

1. Watch a short video on effective feedback and how to give it. (Don’t feel like watching? You can always read the transcript with slides, too.) If you’re curious about automated feedback options in Canvas, contact IDEAS to discuss. 
 

2. Use the CTL’s semester feedback planner to help you map out how you’ll give timely feedback on assessments throughout the semester. 
 

3. Select one of your major assignments and download a copy of the CTL’s Effective Feedback for Assessments Worksheet to think through how you’ll provide transparent and actionable feedback for that assignment. Repeat this task for your other assignments. 
 

4. See UMass faculty members feedback approaches that work well in different types of courses.
