What is possible when we center student learning beyond the traditional grading structure? Faculty here at UMass and across higher ed have raised interest in alternative grading practices like ungrading, specifications grading, and contract-based grading that seek to answer this question. We invite faculty to join the CTL for a reading group on Ungrading by Susan D. Blum that provides a quick introduction to these topics and a space to discuss these ideas with fellow faculty. No experience or familiarity with alternative grading required—just an interest in learning more. Facilitator: Sara Cavallo
Meetings will be Friday afternoons beginning on March 24th at 2-3:30PM on Zoom. Tentative dates for subsequent meetings are: March 31st, April 14th, April 28th, and May 5th. To make the most of our discussions, this group will be limited to fifteen participants and participants will need to be able to join at least three meetings.
The first reading will be shared digitally upon registration. Everyone will receive a print copy of the book, and it is also available as an eBook from the library.
Sign up by March 20th to participate!
