CTL Conference Room (W.E.B. Du Bois Library, 714)

The Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) wants to treat new faculty and librarians to lunch at the end of this first semester at UMass. So here’s seven reasons why you would take the elevator (or stairs) to the 7th floor of the library to eat lunch in the CTL on a very busy week of the semester:

  1. You want to reconnect with other new faculty and librarians, many of whom you may not have seen since New Faculty Orientation.
  2. You want a legitimate reason to NOT plan your final exams or grade those final papers.
  3. That leftover granola bar in your desk drawer has stopped cutting it as a valid lunch.
  4. Hearing other people’s stories about their teaching experiences can validate some things you’ve felt or experienced.
  5. The only buildings you’ve ever been in are the ones where your office and classes are located, and you’ve been dying to see other examples of this campus’s brutalist architecture.
  6. You want to expand your network beyond your colleagues in your department.
  7. You’ve heard there’s a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sculpture on the 21st floor of the library and now you have an excuse to see it.

Drop by during the “reading day” (i.e. a day between the end of classes and start of finals) between 12-1 PM to grab some lunch and chat with your “new to campus” colleagues and CTL staff—we’d love to hear how this first semester at UMass went for you!
