Edit your syllabus to be more learner centered

Why

The syllabus is students’ first introduction to you and the course. Learning-focused syllabi adopt a warm tone and emphasize how the instructor will support student learning promote student engagement. 

How

  1. Review the elements of a learner-centered syllabus in CTL’s Inclusive Syllabus Design series.
  2. Focus on revising your course description so that it piques students’ interest and communicates your enthusiasm for the course content.
  3. Include an inclusive learning statement that shares how to access help from campus support systems.
  4. Choose language that is encouraging and supportive.
