Phuc VP Nguyen

Assistant Professor

Professor Nguyen founded and directs the Wireless and Sensor Systems Laboratory (WSSL). His broad research interests are in the areas of mobile/wearable computing, wireless networking, and embedded systems. His research agenda has focused on the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), where he explores solutions for real-world medical problems and improve the current healthcare practice creatively.

Professor Nguyen's broad research interests are in the areas of mobile/wearable computing, wireless networking, and embedded systems. His research agenda has focused on the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), where he explores solutions for real-world medical problems and improve the current healthcare practice creatively. His work is interdisciplinary in nature, while he draws from techniques in sensor and sensing system development, algorithms, data analytics, signal processing, hardware, and firmware optimization to invent a new class of medical devices that can continuously and unobtrusively collect novel and important health data in non-clinical settings. Professor Nguyen has developed novel systems for physiological and behavioral monitoring, built new hardware architecture, investigated signal processing and machine learning techniques for new types of sensor data, and worked with patients and caregivers at hospitals across the states to validate the technology he built.

Professor Nguyen founded and directs the Wireless and Sensor Systems Laboratory (WSSL). His team develops new techniques in sensor and sensing system development, algorithms, data analytics, signal processing, hardware, and firmware optimization to invent (1) a new class of "medical devices" that can continuously and unobtrusively collect novel and important health data in non-clinical settings, (2) a new class of "living sensors" that can live with plants/animals, and (3) a new class of "unmanned aerial vehicles" that requires extremely low maintenance.
