Carrie-Ellen Briere
Current Research
I am a neonatal nurse who focuses on the biology of human milk and its involvement with infant health, growth, and development. In the Briere Human Milk Research Laboratory we analyze many bioactive components (including a diverse population of cells) of human milk and seek to understand how these many components interact from a biological systems perspective. Our research is driven by the goal to improve infant health. To do this, our research aims to understand how to optimize milk delivery to preterm and ill neonates and to further investigate and determine the mechanism(s) by which human milk components protect infants and promote growth and development.
