S-Sociol of Climate Change

Global warming is a serious and immediate problem. In addition to understanding the physical science behind it, we also need to understand the ways groups, institutions, and individuals can effect environmental change. This course will cover the ways in which society and the environment impact each other, with a focus on climate change. We will examine how climate change and other environmental issues are socially constructed by actors with divergent interests, as
well as the social structural contributions to these problems and their solutions. We will explore the question of how scientific knowledge shapes (and is shaped by) social understandings of and approaches to the environment. This course is designed with both social - and physical-science majors in mind.
