ROBSHAM MEMORIAL CENTER FOR VISITORS SOLAR CANOPY

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Three solar photovoltaic parking canopies have been installed at the Robsham Memorial Center for Visitors parking lot on Massachusetts Avenue that cover the first three 'islands' --six rows of parking spaces --in the lot.

The innovative project, designed by Fuss & O'Neil, a civil and environmental engineering firm, and built by RAC Builders, Inc., of Agawam, Massachusetts, includes three Level 2 dual charging stations, and each canopy provides up to 64kW of AC power for a total of 192 kW AC.

The solar canopies are the first of their kind at UMass and the first of their kind in the Amherst area. It is estimated that they'll result in yearly cost savings to the University of $160-170,000.00 with a seven-to-ten-year payback schedule.

Construction began in May of 2015 and was completed in January, 2016.
